Ammonium phosphide is a basic compound whose chemical formula is (NH4)3P. It has a molar mass of 85.09 grams per mole. Ammonium phosphide is a base used for various purposes including manufacture of fertilizers.
Although the compound is a base, it is highly toxic and people are encouraged to avoid direct contact with products made from it. The compound is prepared from different elements, namely ammonia and hydrogen phosphate. The compound can be prepared in basic laboratory settings or large scale manufacturing of fertilizers. It is preferred in the manufacture of fertilizers because it is not soluble in water, which also reduces the risk of contamination of water sources through erosion.
