The economy of the ancient Hebrews was that of an Iron Age nomadic population where wealth was measured by how many goats, sheep, cattle or camels one possessed. Metalworking and pottery crafts produced knives, weapons, tools and jewelry that might have been traded for other goods.
The fleece harvested from sheep was spun into fabric for clothing and blankets. Sheep milk and cheese provided food. Goats produced milk, cheese, leather and meat. Rams horns made into flasks carried olive oil and medicine for wounds, and the goat hides were important in making tents. The olive tree and its oil were important elements in the ancient Hebrew economy.
