What is an Android widget?

Android widgets are small programs that display information on an Android phone user's home screen. They allow users to access information without loading an app.

One of Android's early features over iPhones was the widget, which allows users to customize their home screens more than iOS devices. Android uses an app drawer instead of placing all apps on the home screen. Users can place shortcuts to apps on their home screens in addition to placing widgets. Clock widgets show the time using a large analog- or digital-style clock and may display alarm information. Other widgets show news and sports scores, while others read and display information from social media accounts.
