What animals live in the sunlight zone?

Aquatic animals, such as sharks and seals, live in the sunlight zone. Other animals that live in the zone include jellyfish and rays.

The sunlight zone is also known as the euphotic zone. The zone encompasses the upper layer of the ocean that receives plenty of sunlight during the daytime hours. On average, the sunlight zone extends 660 feet deep although some areas are much shallower. Other living things in the sunlight zone include aquatic plants. These plants receive enough sunlight for photosynthesis. The sunlight zone produces around 90 percent of the Earth's oxygen. The word euphotic means "well lit" in Greek.
