The average small business owner made $68,000 annually in 2013, according to Fox Business. This is down from $72,000 in 2012. About 15 percent of small business owners have to work a second job in order to make ends meet.

Small business owners are actively seeking to increase their income. A study done by American Express OPEN in 2013 shows that 50 percent of small business owners are using social media to interact with their customers. Of these business owners, 71 percent are using social media to find new customers and approximately 60 percent are using it to boost the sales from their current customers.
