In "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller, Tituba responds to Hale's accusations of performing witchcraft by stating that Abigail begged her to create a charm for her through conjuring the spirits. Tituba denies that she is bewitching the female children in town.
Tituba insists there are others in town who have contracted with the devil. After Hale accuses Tituba of witchcraft, he persuades her to follow God and asks who she has seen from town with the devil. Tituba states that she has seen four other people from Salem with the devil. She also tells Hale that the devil asked her to kill him, but she refused to do so.
