What is another name for the area of subtropical highs?

Subtropical highs are also called subtropical anticyclones or subtropical ridges. They are areas of unusually high pressure that exist over the ocean at around 30 degrees north and south of the equator.
The winds in subtropical ridges are uncharacteristically calm. This leads to hazy daylight conditions and fog at night. The pressure in these areas causes the westerly and trade winds. The North Pacific High, a subtropical anticyclone northeast of Hawaii, is the reason California has dry summers and wet springs. The Azores High, meanwhile, lies in the Atlantic, and is responsible for heat waves in the eastern states of the United States and hot dry summers in some parts of Europe.
