Central processing units are also called mainframes, processors and central processors. The central processing unit is often called CPU for short. It is composed of the main memory, the arithmetic logic unit and the control unit of a computer system.
Each of the components of a CPU is responsible for a specific function. The memory stores data and information. The arithmetic logic unit, commonly known as the ALU, executes arithmetic operations. The control unit is used to control the flow of operations in a computer. Without the CPU, computers are unable to work, because the CPU acts as a bridge between the hardware and the software of the computer.
