What is an anterior hip replacement?
By Forinfos - 07/03/2025 - 0 comments
Anterior hip replacement is a hip replacement surgery done through the front of the leg rather than the back, which allows for less muscle damage and quicker recovery, according to the Hospital for Special Surgery. This technique allows the surgeon to get to the joint by separating muscle rather than cutting it.
Hip replacement becomes necessary when cartilage wears out and the bones beneath start to develop painful irregularities and spurs. During the surgery, artificial implants are used to replace the ball at the top of the thighbone and the hip socket. After the surgery, the patient's mobility is returned, with little or no pain.
