The film, "Apollo 18," is not a true story. The final Apollo mission was Apollo 17, which launched in Dec. 7, 1972 and concluded on Dec. 19, 1972.
"Apollo 18" is a horror film based on the premise that there actually was an Apollo 18 mission but was kept secret due the horrifying events depicted in the film. "Apollo 18" was released on Sept. 2, 2011, and stars Warren Christie, Lloyd Owen and Ryan Robbins. The film received very negative reviews from critics. Other films about the Apollo space program include "Apollo 13," released to critical acclaim in 1995, and "From the Earth to the Moon," an HBO miniseries.
