Where is your appendix located?

The appendix is located at the end of the colon on the right side of the body. This end of the colon connects to the small intestine. The appendix drops drown approximately 4 inches from the colon into the lower right abdomen.

The purpose of the appendix is unknown. Sometimes it becomes inflamed and infected and may rupture, necessitating surgery to remove the appendix. An inflamed or infected appendix results in a condition known as appendicitis. Appendicitis is indicated by pain around the navel or on the lower right-hand side of the abdomen. Nausea and vomiting often accompany the pain.
