A CT scan can generate a clear picture of the appendix, according to WebMD. MRIs and PET scans are also used by doctors to locate suspected tumor of the appendix.
A CT scan is capable of producing clear 3D images of inflamed or ruptured appendix. An ultrasound scan is also a painless procedure that makes use of sound waves to generate images of the appendix. MRIs use magnetic field and radio waves to generate very clear and comprehensive images of internal organs. PET scans use a distinct camera and radioactive chemical to see the internal organs but does not generate pictures as clear as the ones produced by a CT scan and MRI, states WebMD.
