Does apple cider vinegar burn fat?

According to WebMD, as of 2014 there is no evidence indicating that apple cider vinegar burns fat. WebMD describes a vinegar study done with mice but warns that it is not appropriate to generalize the research results to humans.

In the mice study, the animals given a chemical found in vinegar had 10 percent less body fat than mice given water, according to WebMD. Researchers believe that the chemical flipped on a gene that increased the breakdown of fats.

The Mayo Clinic observes that consuming apple cider vinegar sometimes creates problems. The high acid content makes the liquid a throat irritant, and it interacts with medications or supplements taken by some people. This interferes with potassium absorption.
