To apply for a Brazilian Visa, research the visa type, review the requirements, and submit the application and appropriate fee to the Brazilian Consulate in person or through a visa or travel agency at least one month prior to your departure date. Visas are typically processed within five business days.
- Research visa types
The Brazilian Consulate issues a number of visas for different purposes, each of which carry their own requirements. U.S. citizens are required to obtain a visa even if they are entering Brazil as a tourist. Visit the website of the Brazilian Consulate's official website for a complete list of visas and requirements.
- Review the requirements
For a tourist visa, in addition to the application, be prepared to provide a valid passport, a recent 2- by 2-inch passport photograph with a white background, and a copy of your round-trip ticket or a letter with your itinerary from a travel agent. For applicants under 18, an original or notarized copy of the birth certificate must also be provided, and both parents must complete and sign an additional authorization form.
- Submit the completed application
After the visa application form is completed online, print a copy of the receipt, and attach the photo in the designated location. Bring the visa form delivery receipt, the required documentation, a money order for the application fee, and a prepaid USPS priority mail envelope with you to the closest Brazilian Consulate.
