How do you appraise the value of an old typewriter?

Because old typewriters are only valuable to collectors, the owner should have a typewriter appraised by seeking an opinion from an antiques expert. To command a high price, old typewriters should contain all working parts and be free from rust, dents and scratches.
Two classes of typewriters are collected: the index machine, which has a pointer and dial, and the keyboard machine. Collectors seek out typewriters that were in production for many years, especially early and innovative models that remain in good condition. The Royal Grand typewriter is one of the most collectible and rare machines. The first historically important typewriters were produced in 1874.
