What is an AR Card?

An AR Card allows Nintendo 3DS owners to access augmented reality features in their handheld game consoles. By pointing the outer camera towards an AR card, certain virtual elements appear in compatible apps and games.

Every Nintendo 3DS unit is bundled with six AR Cards, five of which feature famous Nintendo video game characters. The AR Games app is also preloaded in every unit and heavily utilizes AR cards for various mini-games, such as archery and fishing. Furthermore, the official Nintendo website features downloadable AR cards that players can print out. Some of them come in larger sizes to create life-sized virtual characters, while others are user-submitted photos.
