There are 13 area codes in New York City: 212, 315, 347, 516, 518, 607, 631, 646, 716, 718, 845, 914 and 917. Each code represents an area of the city, but some of them are overlaid.

The code for Manhattan is 212, overlaid by 646 and 917, whereas the 315 code is for north central New York, Syracuse, Utica and Watertown. One should dial 347 for New York City numbers except Manhattan. For Nassau County, the code is 516, whereas the code for northeastern New York, Albany, Saranac Lake and Plattsburgh is 518.
