The Army Commendation medal is awarded for meritorious service or achievements and heroism. It can be earned by any member of the U.S. Armed Forces other than General Officers who served in a military role after Dec. 6, 1941.

The Army Commendation medal is awarded for acts of valor of a degree lesser than that required for a Bronze Star. The medal displays a bald eagle with spread wings grasping three crossed arrows in its talons. On its breast, the eagle bears a shield with thirteen vertical stripes and a horizontal band across the top. The reverse side of the medal includes a name panel between the inscribed words "FOR MILITARY" and "MERIT" above a laurel sprig.
