When did all-news radio stations first appear?

The first radio to offer all-news broadcast was KFAX in late 1959. However, this endeavour ended in failure. After two years, Arthur W. Arundel gave the idea another try with WAVA-FM in Washington and achieved success in the Vietnam Era.
One of the reasons why Arundel's attempt had been successful was that the ongoing war in Vietnam provided the radio station with large amounts of listeners. Arundel would then go on to help other stations in New York and Chicago convert to the all-news format. Similarly, Canada's first all-news radio station was established in 1977 with the name of CKO.
