Treatment for osteoarthritis centers around improving a person's mobility and lifestyle, and it includes rest and specific types of joint care, states WebMD. Using a cane on the side of the body that is affected may also help. Regular exercise and losing weight are recommended as well. Additionally, pain relievers, either over-the-counter or prescribed, may help with pain. In some cases, a doctor recommends surgery to treat the condition.
