What is an ash tree borer?

Ash tree borers are beetles that are also known as emerald ash borers. They produce larvae that feed on ash trees and cause significant damage. Emerald ash borer beetles are bright green with purple undersides and are approximately ½ inch long.

Adult ash tree borers lay their eggs on ash tree bark. When the beetle larvae hatch, they feed on the bark and gradually tunnel into the underlying tree layers. Over time, the trees become dehydrated and unbalanced, which leads to tree death. Emerald ash borers are considered hazardous, as they can rapidly spread destruction by laying their eggs on multiple host trees.
