What is the associative property?
By Forinfos - 21/02/2026 - 0 comments
The associative property means that no matter how a set of numbers is grouped, the answer is the same. This property typically refers to addition and multiplication as these operations can be carried out on a set of numbers in any order to get the same answer.
Addition and multiplication are not the only mathematical functions that have the associative property, but they are the most commonly used. The associative property can also work on logical operators, for example, taking the union or intersection of multiple sets. Some common mathematical operations that are not associative are subtraction, division and taking the cross products of vectors.
