If I ate moldy bread, will I get sick?

Molds in bread and baked goods can produce toxins that cause illness, according to Foodsafety.gov. Such foods should be discarded immediately at the sight of mold, as porous foods may be contaminated below the surface.
While some molds cause minor allergic reactions and respiratory issues, others produce harmful substances known as "mycotoxins" that result in more severe sickness, explains the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
In contrast, foods like hard salami and dry-cured country hams, hard cheese and firm fruits and vegetables with surface mold are safe, though the moldy parts should be cut off completely prior to consumption.
