Where are ATP synthase complexes located in a plant cell?
By Forinfos - 29/06/2025 - 0 comments
ATP synthase complexes are located in the thylakoid and mitochondrial membranes. The thylakoid are disk-shaped structures inside the plant cell that contain chlorophyll and other pigments necessary for photosynthesis.
ATP synthase is an enzyme that works with the proteins involved in the electron transfer chain in the membranes. The energy gained from the electron transport chain is used to bind the phosphorus atom to the ADP to create ATP that the cell can use for energy. The ATP synthase complexes in the thylakoid membranes create ATP during photosynthesis, whereas the complexes in the mitochondrial membranes create ATP during aerobic respiration, as explained by Collin County Community College.
