Automobile air bag codes vary according to the manufacturer. Although there are universal code readers that work for most automobile manufacturers, some makes require brand specific software. The airbag can also be manually reset on some vehicles.

The airbag light will turn on if a component on the safety system malfunctions. Once the light illuminates, the safety restraint system for the vehicle will not function. This means if the driver is in an auto accident, the airbags will not deploy. In order for the system to work again, the airbag codes will need to be cleared either by using a scanner or a manufacturer procedure.
