The automobile sales tax rate in Arkansas is 6.5 percent. The tax is collected when the automobile is registered with the state's Office of Motor Vehicle, which must occur within 30 days of purchase or transfer of title.
There may be additional local taxes applied. According to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration, Texarkana residents pay 7 percent. The tax is computed on the total delivery price, including freight and added options. Used vehicles purchased for $4,000 or less are not subject to sales tax. Military personnel whose home of record is not Arkansas are not subject to sales tax on their vehicles.
