Lemon-lime sodas contain 37.6 grams of sugar per serving, while ginger ale contains 31.8 grams of sugar, which is equal to about 9 1/2 teaspoons.

According to a 2006 article that appeared in the “American Journal of Clinical Nutrition”, drinking soda and other heavily-sugared beverages contributes to obesity and unhealthy weight gain that can lead to cardiovascular disease. It is estimated that Americans consume about 150 pounds of sugar a year.
