The average household income for a family that is upper class is $150,000 a year. This is considered the 5 percent, which means only 5 percent of Americans are earning this income. The top-level income families are in the 1 percent of Americans and make $250,000 a year or more.
The level of income just below upper class is upper middle class. This group of people make between $100,000 and $149,000 a year. Both upper middle class and upper class people typically have white collar jobs at top levels in their companies. These people also typically have a post-graduate education.
