In 2012, the average American household had three computers, up from an average of only 1.56 in 2000. The U.S. has the fourth-highest concentration of computers per household, after Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar.
Surveys conducted since 2012 tend to expand their parameters to include all devices that can connect to the Internet, such as smartphones, tablets and consoles as well as personal computers. In 2013, the average number of these devices was 5.7 per U.S. household. There are over 500 million devices connected to the Internet in American homes. The number of personal computers per household remains stable, while ownership of portable devices, such as smartphones and tablets, continues to grow.
