The national average chief financial officer (CFO) salary is $156,164 per year, as of May 2015. On the low end, salaries begin around $80,000 a year, whereas on the higher end, CFO's can bring home more than $300,000.

This range can vary greatly based on experience, type of company, location and other factors. This base salary does not include bonuses, stock options and other benefits associated with high-level positions comparable to chief financial officer. These perks can nearly double the total pay of any given position. Generally, larger publicly traded companies have larger salaries and better perks available to their employees.
