What is the average salary range of a police officer?

While salaries vary based on location, the median annual wage nationally for police and sheriff's patrol officers was $59,560 in May 2014, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The annual wages ranged from the bottom 10th percentile salary of $33,030 to the 90th percentile salary of $92,450 annually.

The 2014 BLS data ranked New Jersey best overall for officer salaries with a median annual wage of $88,530. California at $87,520, Alaska at $75,670, New York at $72,310 and Washington at $72,240 round out the five highest-paying states. The data also found that the San Francisco-San Mateo-Redwood City, California Metropolitan Division had the highest average annual wage at $101,040 per year.
