The average life expectancy for all Americans born in 2012 was 78.8 years, the highest ever recorded in the United States. Women and men experienced a life expectancy difference of almost five years, with women living a projected 81.2 years and men living 76.4 years.
For individuals 65 years of age in 2012, the average life expectancy was 19.3 years. For women, the average was 20.5 years; for men the estimate was 17.9 years.
Monaco has the highest life expectancy in the world at 89.52 years. Japan, Singapore, Macau and San Marino are also in the top five. Chad has the lowest estimated life expectancy at 49.81, the only country with an estimate under 50 years of age.
