The average granite slab is about 9 or 10 feet by 5 or 6 feet, with slight variation. Although each slab is slightly over 50 square feet, it may produce only 35 square feet of usable granite for a countertop. Granite slabs are typically 3/4 to 1 1/4 inches thick.

A granite slab is created by cutting blocks of granite into sheets that are polished and then sealed with resin or epoxy. The slabs are typically packed into bundles of eight to 10 slabs. Slabs from the same bundle should be chosen for any particular job because as they come from the same granite block, they are likely to look very similar.
