Where is Aviano AFB?

Aviano Air Base is located in northern Italy's Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. It is at the foot of the Dolomites mountain range, otherwise known as the Southern Carnic Alps. The nearest town to the base is 9 miles away in Pordenone.

The base is about 50 miles north of Venice, and it is relatively close to the borders of Austria and Slovakia. The Aviano Air Base is ostensibly named for the Aviano municipality in which it is located. Unlike most military bases, Aviano occupies several locations instead of consisting of one contiguous area. The base provides dormitories for lower-ranking enlisted members, but it does not provide housing for personnel with families.
