A baby coyote is called a pup or whelp. Young coyotes are raised in dens just like wolves. Coyotes can live up to 14 years in the wild.
Male coyotes typically grow to be between 18 and 44 pounds, and females grow to be between 15 and 40 pounds. Coyote dens are found in canyons, washouts, banks and rock bluffs. Coyotes are omnivorous but usually prey on animals. The diet of the coyote includes bison, deer, sheep, rabbits, rodents, birds, lizards, snake and fish. Feeding territories for coyotes vary in range between less than a mile radius to over 23 miles. A group of coyotes is referred to as a pack.
