Is Bacardi white rum right for a Jamaican rum cake recipe?

Various brands of white rum, including Bacardi, are appropriate for use in a Jamaican rum cake. Some recipes refer to Jamaican rum cake as Jamaican black cake.

Some recipes suggest other rums, such as Appleton, Old Oak or Cockspur, while others include mixed dried fruits such as currants, raisins, prunes and dried cherries. Jamaican rum cake may also include burnt sugar coloring, which bakers can make at home or purchase in West Indian markets. Making burnt sugar coloring at home requires caramelizing one-fourth a cup of sugar in a heavy saucepan, then removing it from the heat and adding one-fourth a cup of water.
