Are bagels healthy?

In general, bagels are not considered to be a healthy food option. A single plain bagel with no toppings can have around 350 calories by itself, along with around 50 grams of carbohydrates, which is equivalent to eating up to four slices of bread. Add toppings like cream cheese and lox, and the calories continue to increase.
Bagels are also not considered to be healthy because they do not deliver the basic nutrients the body needs, such as fiber, minerals and vitamins. The carbohydrates in bagels generally turn to sugar and then to fat in the human body. Whole wheat bagels are a slightly better option, as are whole grain or whole wheat English muffins.
