What are some Bakken Shale companies?

As of 2015, companies and lease operators involved with Bakken shale include ConocoPhillips, Forestar Group and ExxonMobil. Other companies actively involved with Bakken shale are Marathon Oil, Prima Exploration and Whiting Petroleum.

As of December 2014, Whiting Petroleum was the largest oil producer in the Bakken shale play following its acquisition of Kodiak Oil & Gas. Estimates indicated that Whiting produced 107,000 barrels of oil per day.

The Bakken shale play straddles the United States and Canadian border, covering parts of North Dakota, Montana, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. As of 2015, the Bakken area is the largest U.S. oil field outside of Alaska, with an estimated 3.65 billion barrels of recoverable crude oil.
