How do bald eagles protect themselves?

Bald eagles protect themselves by growing to a large size that makes it difficult for other winged predators to capture them, by being able to fly away from large land predators and by being strong enough to attack prey easily. The bald eagle does an excellent job of locating prey by flying and then swooping down to clasp the prey.

Once the prey has been clasped in the bald eagle's talons, it can fly away before a land predator comes along. The bald eagle, however, has had a difficult time protecting itself from humans. Humans have harmed the bald eagle by damaging its ability to survive through habitat destruction, DDT, electrocution, poaching and poisoning, reports the American Eagle Foundation.
