What is Bali clothing?

Traditional Balinese clothing includes kebayas, kains and sarongs. Women wear kebayas at weddings and religious ceremonies. The garment is a fitted blouse made of decoratively embroidered cotton or translucent lace with a corset underneath. Kebayas are worn over a kain or sarong, often accompanied by a pair of high-heeled sandals.

Kains and sarongs are rectangular pieces of fabric tied at the waist or sewn to form a tube. Both genders wear kains and sarongs, but men usually opt for brown, black and muted tones. A plain shirt, head-dress and occasional ceremonial dagger completes the men's look. Sarongs are usually made of batik, and the quality of fabric denotes the status of the wearer.
