What are some basic rules for rounding decimal places?

When rounding numbers with decimals, all digits to the right of the rounding digit are dropped. No further action is taken if the digits to the right of the rounding digit are 4 or less. If the dropped digit is 5 or greater, one is added to the rounding digit.
Another decimal rounding method favored by some as being more accurate follows a rule referred to as the Banker's Rule. In this method, the decimal number is rounded off to the nearest even digit when the first digit that is dropped is 5 and no other digits follow the 5.
