Do Basset Hounds shed?

Basset Hounds shed at a medium to high rate all year round even though their hair is short, smooth and easy to keep clean. This is different from other dogs that usually shed only in the spring and fall.

To prevent shedding from getting out of control, brush the dog weekly to remove loose hair. Use a bristle brush, coarse cloth or hound glove to keep their coats in good and clean condition. Brush gently in the direction of hair growth. The dog still sheds, but brushing the dog's hair makes it more manageable and helps keep carpets and furniture from getting dirty.
