Batik fabric is a type of fabric that is made using a series of handmade lines and dots. The fabric design is created using a tool called a canting. Wax helps prevent bleeding from the lines and dots to the rest of the fabric.
Batik cloth dates back to the tropical regions of ancient Indonesia and Malaysia. During that time, clothing and linens of the villagers were made more colorful and interesting by using the batik effect. There were not only fabrics made in the batik style, but paintings and wall hangings as well. Modern-day batik fabric is made with colorfast dye and 100-percent cotton cloth.
