Why is the Bayeux Tapestry important?
By Forinfos - 10/08/2025 - 0 comments
The Bayeux Tapestry is important because it gives a unique and detailed view of the past and the history of the events leading up to the Normandy conquest of England. It is one of the largest and most detailed pieces of work that survived from the medieval ages.
The actual artist of the tapestry, which is not actually a tapestry but a 230-foot long piece of embroidery, is unknown. It has been speculated that Queen Mathilda created it for King William, but others say it was more likely made by Anglo-Saxon monks. It is thought possible that the work was commissioned from the monks by the Bishop of Bayeux, who was William's brother.
