Do beans grow better in soil or sand?

Beans grow best in soil. However, as they prefer well-drained soil, adding some sand to the soil can help them thrive.
Beans do well in rich soil composed of organic matter. Before planting beans, gardeners should turn the soil and add plenty of compost to the plots to ensure that the soil has plenty of nutrients. As beans do better in slightly acidic soil with a pH level of 6 to 6.5, they should test the soil before planting and adjust it as necessary.
Different types of beans thrive in different environments. Green beans prefer heavier, richer soil, whereas pole and bush beans require more drainage. Gardeners can add slightly more sand to help provide more drainage or plant these types in raised beds.
