To become a member of a Major League Gaming team, a player must first register a user name on the MLG Play website. After registering, a player must then start a new team or be invited to join an existing team.

Whether to attract players to a new team or to garner an invitation to an existing team, it is recommended that a player first establish a reputation by joining the MLG forums and participating in online game play. Instead of waiting for gaming opportunities, it is advised that new players send out friend requests and challenges of their own.
