Bedbugs are parasites that feed on the blood of humans and their pets. The blood that a bedbug ingests allows it to grow and reproduce at a rapid rate.
Feeding time for bedbugs takes between two and five minutes, and the bugs can live for up to a year without feeding. A female bedbug can lay more than 200 eggs in a lifetime, and the eggs hatch six to 10 days after they are laid. Bedbugs need to feed at least once between every moulting cycle, and there are at least five cycles before the bugs reach the adult stage.
