Was Benjamin Franklin president of the United States?

Benjamin Franklin was considered among the richest men in the colonies, but he was never president of the United States. However, he became the president of the Executive Council of Pennsylvania, known for his anti-slavery work and his signature on the Treaty of Paris.

Franklin was a resourceful man known for many great achievements, including the invention of bifocals, lightning rods and the Franklin stove. He was also an author, postmaster, printer, civic activist and diplomat. He was among the Founding Fathers of the United States and he adamantly campaigned for the unity of the colonies. His pursuance of a united country earned him the title "the First American."
