Berlin is located in northeast Germany, in the central part of the state of Brandenburg, which borders Poland. Its latitude is 52° 31` 12`` N, and its longitude is 13° 24` 36`` E.

Berlin is a city state with a population of 3,292,400, as of 2011. It has an area of 892 kilometers squared, and one can reach Poland by car from Berlin in about 1.5 hours. Brandenburg's capital, Potsdam, borders Berlin to the southwest, and there is a city train line in Berlin that ends in Potsdam. The Brandenburger city of Frankfurt, not to be confused with the major city of Frankfurt am Main in the state of Hessen, is the next biggest city close to Berlin.
