According to the American Kennel Club, a Labrador Retriever can grow to be between 55 and 80 pounds with a height between 22.5 and 24.5 inches at the shoulder blades. Male Labrador Retrievers tend to grow slightly larger than females.

If a Labrador Retriever is not fully purebred, there can be some variation from these height ranges; however, variances greater than a half inch are disqualifications for AKC purposes. In addition to their manageable medium size, Labrador Retrievers have a naturally even temperament that makes them well suited to serving as family companions. The Labrador Retriever is the most popular breed in the United States.
